I had a pretty awesome weekend cavorting with other personal bloggers. One of the high lights though was a lunch at Jackalope. Nicole, a traveler and food enthusiast hailing from New York and L.A. decided to run the Austin Live Strong Half Marathon just so that she can come back to Austin and eat the best pulled pork sandwich of her life again. She herded us over to Jackalope and I was so surprised! I’ve had a few drinks over the years at Jacakalope, an Austin dive bar in the heart of dirty Sixth. I wouldn’t have ever thought to eat at Jackalope. Curious about Nicole’s fanaticism, I along with a handful of other bloggers, ordered the same meal, a pulled pork sandwich with a side of waffle fries.

Pulled Pork Sandwich, $6.79; side order of fries, $1.99

It was a glorious sandwich. The shredded pork was moist and the barbecue sauce was phenonmenal with a strong note of mustard. The slaw was crisp and complemented the pork just wonderfully. I loved the grunts and moans and mmhmms that escaped my eating companions’ mouths. Other notable responses: “This is dirty good.” “Do I have mustard on my face?”

The waffle fries were Cajun seasoned and I could have eaten a few more orders of them.

Personal Bloggers document their meals too!

If you have a hankering for sloppy pulled pork in between toasted buns, I urge you to go to The Jackalope.
