Kemuri Tatsu-Ya Opens January 5th
Happy New Year! I trust and hope you had a great one, but if you didn’t or wanted to extend your celebrations, may I suggest experiencing Kemuri Tatsuya? The new and hip izakaya, owned by the same people as the beloved and famous ramen purveyor, Ramen Tatsuya, officially opens today. I remember coming back from my trip from Vancouver a few years ago where a great chunk of my meals were at izakayas, and wishing we had more of that delicious scene in Austin. And now here we are with the fab Kemuri!
The menu is expansive and both traditional and creative. Go and dabble in the safe and delicious (like bacon-wrapped potato pillows on skewers), the delicately exotic (fermented squid swimming in its own guts), and the Texas-inspired (brisket, brisket, brisket). They kept the smoker from the previous barbecue restaurant tenant and had put it to good use! The recommendation is to bring your friends and order everything.
Sadly, I left my flash at home when I attended the media soft opening and failed at documenting my adventure. Sugarface lent me his cellphone and I just barely made it by with one decent photo of the ramen. So this is a great time to share some of my friends’ favorite dishes from Kemuri.
