As mentioned in the previous entry, I just got back from a vacation in Vancouver. I ate so well and I miss the city incredibly. I hope you join me as I relive some of my meals. Let’s start with a brunch place, shall we?

Saturday morning, we began our day with brunch at Cafe Medina, a quaint and popular cafe recommended to me by a handful of people. Lucky for us, it just a short walk from our hotel. We were warned that there was usually a crowd and line at this place during the weekends. Though, every table was taken the whole time we were there, we luckily got seated almost immediately. The traffic flow was harmonious that day. A party woud leave just when another would arrive.

We started with a waffle with an orange fig marmalade topping for $3.50. The candied orange peels balanced the figs perfectly. I could eat the topping on its own! The waffle was crisp and fluffy all at once and sufficently moist. The serving is small enough where you can order entree and sides and still enjoy a waffle. Normally, I skip out on waffles and pancakes to save room for the more savory stuff. If you’re like me, you won’t have to do that here!

My friend ordered the Les Boulettes, 2 poached eggs, spicy Moroccan lamb and beef meatballs, priced at $15.00. It was a hearty entree. Love the blend of lamb and beef together.

I had the Fricasse, priced at $16.00. 2 fried eggs, braised short ribs, roasted potatoes, caramelized onions, water cress and smoked applewood cheddar. Delightful.

We had our meals while nibbling on sides of fresh fruit and sausage with hummus.

Such a hearty brunch, I loved it.

The decor was really hip and pretty. Love the seafoam palate of the wall hangings and the light fixtures. Friend took this picture of the narrow interior for me. I’m in the olive green and gray striped shirt!

I do recommend this place for brunch and can see why a few people urged us to go. It set the tone for a wonderful third day in Vancouver.

More from Vancouver to come!
