I went back for Round Trois at Gourdoughs. Putting my count of sampled donuts to a grand total of 11 Gourdough donuts (Gourdoughnuts?)! First trip I gleefully tried 7 different donuts. On my second trip, I tried two new ones (and retried 2 from my first trip). Finally two weekends ago, I tried two more with Selina when I introduced her to Gourdoughs and we shared the Flying Pig and the Porkey’s.

Sodas made with real sugar
While we waited in the blistering Texas heat, we cooled down sipping on Coke and Dr. Pepper both made with real sugar. Soda with real sugar goes down much smoother than regular soda.

Flying Pig
Flying Pig: Bacon with Maple Syrup Icing

Bacon has long since proven itself to me as a versatile meat, especially after experiencing the Bacon Takedown this year. I don’t know why I’m pleasantly surprised each time I try a new savory and sweet combination where bacon fulfils the the savory part of the equation. This was one of the simpler bacon & sweets creations I’ve tasted and it was harmonious.

Porky's
Porkey’s: Canadian Bacon, cream cheese, and jalapeno jelly

If the Flying Pig was simple and harmonious, you’d think Porkey’s would be complicated and cacophonous. Though much more intense and a little more complicated, still the cream cheese, Canadian bacon, jalapeno jelly did not clash. It’s a bumpier ride than the Flying Pig, but if you’re feeling adventurous, this is the donut for you. The Canadian bacon off set the texture of the cream cheese and jalapeno as well as the sweetness of the donut making the whole donut surprisingly balanced.

You can say we pigged out in more than one sense.

Sigh. As I said, I’ve now tried 11 donuts at Gourdough’s and still, cannot wait to try more.
