Friday Food Definition: Chop Suey February 20, 2010

My roommate just got accepted to culinary school! In anticipation of all the learning she’s going to do, she bought this awesome book called Food Lover’s Companion. It’s basically a dictionary of more than 6,700 food terms. I thought I’d take advantage of this book and share fun food defintions with you every Friday.

Today’s term is “chop suey.” Here’s the wikipedia link and follows is the definition according to the Food Lover’s Companion.

Chop Suey: [chop SOO-ee] Dating back to at least the mid-19th century, this Chinese-American dish includes small pieces of meat (usually chicken) or shrimp, mushrooms, bean sprouts, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, and onions.
